Reflections Art Show & Reception: Wednesday, October 25th, 2017

PTA Reflections is a national PTA program that has been bringing the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969.

Reflections encourages students of all ages to:
  • Unleash creative talents and be inspired
  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
  • Experience the fun and joy of making art
  • Tap into critical-thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art.

Students can submit original works of art interpreting this year's chosen theme in the areas of dance/choreography, literature, photography, film production, music composition, and visual arts. The theme for the 2017-2018 school year is Within Reach.

If you have any questions regarding the program, contact Reflections Chairperson Tanya Barach.

Entry form, rules and guidelines can be found at www.capta.org

Participation is Easy!

1. Create an Original Work
Only new and original works inspired by the theme: Within Reach will be accepted. Enter in 1 or more of the following arts categories: dance/choreography, literature, photography, film production, music composition, and visual arts.

2. Submit Your Entry
Your submission must include a completed and signed Student Entry Form.
In your artist statement, tell us about your work and what it means to you.
  • How does your work relate to the theme?
  • What is your personal connection to the theme?
  • What did you use to create your work (e.g. supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
  • What/Who was your inspiration?

3. Judging Criteria
Volunteer arts and education experts review submissions without knowledge of who you are. Judges look for personal interpretations on the program theme that best exemplify creativity and technical skill.
  • Interpretation: How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.
  • Creativity: How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
  • Technique: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.
Visit the art gallery for examples of national award-winning works.

4. Awards & Prizes
Every participant is recognized for their work. Awards and prizes will vary by PTA. Learn about state-level and national-level awards and events.
State-level winners were recognized at the 2017 California State PTA Annual Convention. National-level Award of Excellence honorees are recognized at the National PTA Convention, plus their artworks are featured in Reflections’ popular traveling national exhibit.
