Garden Club

With the opening of our renovated campus in the fall of 2024, we inaugurated Del Mar Heights’ beautiful student garden and began weekly club meetings for first through sixth graders during lunchtime on Fridays. Students are joined by our Garden Coordinator as well as parent volunteers to do maintenance work, harvest produce, and create garden-to-table snacks for taste testing!

2025-2026 in the Garden 🪴

Did you know that “kindergarten” means “garden of children” in German? A garden is such a beautiful metaphor for nurturing our children and watching them grow, and we are so lucky at DMH to have a beautiful, flourishing garden for the children to learn and tend to.

But we need A LOT of volunteers to keep the Garden Club running smoothly. Please come help us on Fridays — no green thumb required!

Details are in the SignUpGenius, and feel free to reach out to Brittany Swenson (education@delmarheightspta.com) with any questions.

Garden Club Rules

  • Be helpful, safe, and kind; don’t run; share; and have fun!

  • Arrive on time, wash & dry your hands, and find a volunteer.

  • Wait for instructions or demonstrations and ask for help getting out tools; let a volunteer know if you have any allergies.

  • Don’t forget to leave without rinsing dishes and returning tools and supplies!

Parent Volunteers

  • Volunteers facilitate the Garden Coordinator's planned activity/lesson for the lunchtime meeting on Fridays.

  • The Garden Club volunteer commitment is typically 1.5 hours mid-day on Fridays throughout the school year, but you’re also welcome to come help us with occassional special projects evenings or weekends!
